Mostly the overall even exposure between the foreground and background. It looks to clean to be done with filters in front of the lens. But dont get me wrong, it looks good! Alot better than standard filters would.
By the way, the scenery and colors look amazing right now in the Twin Lakes, Independence Pass area. Have you ever shot in that area?

Thanks for the explanation James. I assumed that Photoshop was involved but I didnt want to accuse you of it in case the photo was untouched. Beautiful shot! I need to make it up there now that the leaves are changing.

Here's the original background image Chad. After looking at the final image some more, I think I'd prefer the background to be a bit warmer --- something that can be fixed by revealing some of the warmer "foreground" image in the background. Right now, it's all the foreground in the foreground, and all of the background in the background, with the transition mainly following the shoreline to get a good color of the reflection.

Thanks for the comment Chad. This image has had a lot of things done to it to make it appear as one would see it with your naked eye. It was made from one RAW exposure, and then it was processed once for the foreground (in this reply), and once for the background (in the next reply). The main difference is in the white point to handle the mixed light, but there was also a slight "exposure" difference. Most of the lightening to the foreground shaddow area was done in PS after I relised that the original RAW conversion left it too dark.

Its good to see a new take on this location, usually everyone shoots the same photo, from the same spot. Great composition, the eye really flows around the frame nicely. The exposure is spot on, from the mountains in the back to the rocks in the front. Did you add any additional lighting/reflection to the foreground?
