Thanks for the comment John. To answer your question, I dont know, I just set up the camea, programed my TC-80N3 timer remote controller to give me 10 second exposures every eleven seconds and waited until the storm passed, I was very excited to see the results.

Wonderful capture my friend. A solid 10 +++: in my book. All of us that have caught the bug are oblivious to the consciences regarding getting the capture my friend? Some people call it crazy though? (lol)
You simply must share your secret with me on how you knew when to fire the camera 10 seconds in advance?

This is a dream of mine to catch a bolt like this. I haven't even tried yet. I haven't had a good thunderstorm come through when it was dark yet. Wonderful wonderful shot, a real beauty.
