About Subject background: The (in)famous colosseum in one of my first IR views. The sensor of my D70 was pretty clean at that time ;-) (nowadays, the sensor is quite dirty)

I posted an image some time ago (Best of both worlds), which features some dual layer stuff with colorization. This time, I went for a slightly different picture with just BW.

PS concept: Lots of layer work to increase brightness and to bring back some detail in the sky and the foreground.

Hi Lukasz,

thanks a lot for the suggestion. 7 for the comment.

To be honest, I played around with the cropping a lot. I ended with this one as I wanted to have the difference between the razor sharp but static foreground and the soft but moving sky in the image. A crop with more sky would be a different story, but for sure interesting as well.

thx, Thilo

I think this scenery is fine for B&W because the sky and ground show kind of corresponding patterns, enough suspense from compository and aesthetic qualities here. Great contrast, excellent result of your PS work, it was worth the effort ;-)

Hi Thilo,
like the IR results you obtained; like the main motive here and its reflection in water' clouds are also lovely;
for the composition, I would move camera up to cut these foreground (snow, puddles?) (the border would be water reflection) and give more clouds which IMHO are more definite and give more to the shot that the present foreground;
anyway, good try, it is a pity that IR on slides is so difficult and expensive ;-)
regards
Lukasz

Hi Ameed,

this is an IR picture taken with the Hoya R72. You have to expose a looong time with it ;-)

I remember this image from your portfolio Thilo and I thought it as a great one at that time, this one is nice too for this fine BW work

Is it taken at night Thilo, I mean 10 seconds it has to be taken at night, but if so, then the details are more than wonderful my friend, the PS work gave it more brightness for sure, very well done, I hope you have a day taken one, cheers,

Thilo,

The looong exposure has caused motion blur in the clouds, which has made them look somewhat unreal. Nothing much you can do about that.

I happen to like contrasty images, so I am suspect when I say I like the effect you got here. Good foreground interest, nice off-center framing etc. The only slight "perhaps..." is those clouds.

This is a fantastic job Thilo!

I remember this one in colour. I think it is one of the first that I commented on when joining usefilm. It looks great in B&W too. The subtle reflection is very effective.

Andre
