About Esmeralda basin is located in the alpine lakes area of the Washington cascades. The snow runoff from the basin originates the north fork of the Teanaway river. My brother and I were doing some peak scrambling and a sudden thunderstorm moved in. It lasted for about two hours and just before sunset the sun broke through. The resulting tunnel of light rendered a beautiful rainbow.
