hi angelo,

hey, you're the photographer, I'm the nitpicker ;-)

if this is the light you had there and you want to show that: then go!

btw: this was'nt auto-levels at all ;-)

I think it looks more technically "balanced", but it is not what it looked like at the time. I guess I'm trying to show what the Seriema actually looks like in its typical habitat, with the light as it was...

But if I wanted to make it stand out from its environment, I'd use the auto levels :)

Interesting debate, interesting choices...

Hi Angelo,

a slight improvement, but I used my PS CS at home to make it look best on my monitor...

what do you think?

Thilo,

Thanks! I knew I could count on Herr Nitpicker to say what he really feels :)

You are right. The image is flat. That is because the original scene is flat. If I look at the histogram it has a single peak. The light in the cerrado (especially at midday, when this was taken) is like this. And the reflectance of the Seriema is the same as that of its habitat (er... grass!).

When I clicked on auto-levels, I went YUCK! It overdoes it. So I brought back a lot of the "low signal" areas and tweaked mainly with the midpoints.

I have now applied a curve to boost contrast. Is this any better, you think?

Hi Angelo,

here comes Mr. Nitpicker again =)

I don't understand what most of the guys told you, but this image looks a bit flat to me. but we had that discussion, and I guess everything is said ;-)

you seemed to have a lot of fun with the wild life in your holidays (?). I like the sharpness with 500mm focal length. sounds a deal for me.

best wishes,

thilo

Angelo,
I don't mind the colouring/contrast. Because of the muted colurs and tones the bird almost looks graceful.I would be inclined to leave it as it is. Obviously you like it this way and you are the one to please.

Nice use of DOF. Tall elegant looking bird. The image seems a little flat, maybe color balancing would add some depth. I like the gentle color of the image, so it would be a very subtle adjustment. Thank you for your feedback on my image. Very much appreciated. Regards, Andree

De nada, Daniel. :)

What's your feeling on the brightness/contrast/saturation of the photo? Carmem and Waldemar weren't too hot on it...

Obrigado!
Angelo.

A good study of this fine creature in its natural habitat.
obragado for sharing (I learned that word in Portugal so my trip was not entirely wasted.}

Cara Carmem,

Carmem

Nice focus on a very exotic looking bird. I like the color, and the blurred background. Wonderful image.

Angelo,
