I guess I didn't answer your question... I use a flatbed scanner with a built-in transparency adapter to scan the negative directly.

Hello Guili - as I see it there are two main factors contributing to the quality here: the light which is nicely directional yet diffuse (large windows right in front of her but not direct light); the other factor (I think) is the larger format film and nice optics.

Hello Ismael - I do know of Walker Evans and that is generous praise indeed.

She is a natural beauty Steve, as I can see by this simple portrait. What is excellent in this is the way her face is so totally made the focal point because of her dark hair, clothing and background. She has magic eyes...more, more. Antonia

...well...I don't understand why everything has to be THAT PERFECT! Does it really bother?
It's a touching portrait, the way she looks at us is simply fantastic, DOF/POF perfect, details, tonal range and so on.
I couldn't care less about some imperfections. Next step is we complain about the square pattern in the back (pictures I guess).
It's a wonderful quality-portrait!!!...with some clues that this hasn't been taken on front of a dark grey studio background.

Thank you Kim - I have received the comment on the white spot (a salt shaker) elsewhere as well. The kind of thing I never seem to catch in my own photos but may see in others. Strange, huh?

This image is full of wonderful detail... I love how her eyes stand out and seem to be so full of life.
Her pose is natural and comfortable (something that can be hard to get sometimes!). I wonder if the white blob behind her right shoulder should be cloned out, or burned as it's fairly bright and takes attention away from her face.
