I'll end the mytery. It' a perfume bottle. I was just playing around with things in my room. I juts take ordinary objects and look throught my lens. I move it around and usualyl get one intersting shot. Everything can be make interseting somehow. Heres a pic of the bottle.

Looks to me like mother of pearl on something, perhaps a ring. Great colors. -- Naomi

Thanks for the info Mike. The lighting is a household lamp projecting from above. I had the camera really close to the object, plus I was standing above it so I may have blocked the light alittle but that may be why it's a bit dark.

Shannon:

Thanks for the friends list addition - I hope that you get a lot of suggestions from usefilm.

Interesting piece of glass on a table - that is my guess - I like the diffracted look of the lighting from above, and the use of the DOF.

good tonality.

The lighting seems bit dark and artificial - like you I thiknk I try to only use diffused natural light. I think the dark background and dark table contribute to the overall feel of weight in this photo. If you have a few bucks, buy some foamcore as bounce plates, backgrounds, and a surface if you want to start playing with some homemade studio lighting-ish situations.

The sun is coming up earlier these days so you might be able to catch some nice light coming through windows in the morning or evening.

Happy shooting.

You are definitely good at the abstract and having fun at it by the looks of things.
