Taken on Day 2 of a course in portrait photography. This image was taken in a studio with an Elinchrom flash into a softbox aimed at the model from behind with a large homemade diffuser (oven paper basically) As we are taking photos of the same 8 people, I was interested in taking an 'anonymous' portrait & this was one of the ideas from the group. I like the soft subtle tones & the hint of colour particularly on the lips yet you can make out little more. This shot is straight out of the camera with no PS.
Unfortunately there weren't any models on the course, just some photographers taking turns at posing! So we all had to make do with each other. Thats why I was trying for this effect.
I like the idea of playing with the hand position more & could probably play with the angle of the face & see how that affects the look of the nose, but I would probably lose the lips then which I like a lot. Where is Kate Moss when you need her!
Thanks for the thoughts. It is useful having a critical view of your own work as I often find it hard to see how others view the image.
Grant, It seams a shame to have a nice model and hide her behind tracing/oven paper! As for shooting something different in class that's gotta be the way fwd. It's nice, if not simple. I think composition could have been worked on a little more wth hands filling the top right & btm left corner tighter and her head tilted. The hands even look as though they aren't necessarily hers. Perhaps not a flattering shot for the model. her lips are good though but her nose conjours up pictures of pinochio in my mind. What happed day 1 by the way?
