About I was driving to town and the Watusi herd (cow and calves) were near the road, so of course, I had to stop and snap a few shots. These are beautiful animals and belong to the Schuster Ranch.

Whoa! Watch out! hahahaha... this has a great perspective! Looks like the horns are going to reach out and poke you! I agree that it would have been nice to isolate the bull, but I think you've gotten close enough without trying to herd them!!! Nice bright colour and framing!

Thanks Dave,
I was in a safe position, When I took the photo of them, I thought they were the most interesting animals I had seen and once determining what they were, I found a web page that describes them as one of the oldest breeds of cattle in the world, dating back more than 5000 years to the African continent.

They are also one of the Largest Horned Cattle in the world, The first Watusi cattle ever to enter the United States was on November 9, 1960 so that may explain why we seldom see them outside of Zoo's.

You can read more at http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/cattle/ankolewa/Index.htm

Here is a another photo of one of the calves, notice the knobs for the horns already

Sharon, my critique here is that you should stay MUCH further away from these guys! Actually, I suppose you were on the safe side of a fence when you did this. I like the mob of cows behind the big guy, although I think DH's suggestion is good as well. Great shot, thanks for posting it. What's the Watusi herd, anyway?

Wow, those horns are huge, and scary! The wide angle really helps to emphasize the dominant subject here. It would have been nice to isolate the one cow, since the background of other cows is a little distracting. However I don't imagine you had a lot of opportunity to get them to do what you wanted. I would have been a little concerned about safety as well.
