Thanx for your comments and encouragement.
I don't put anything on the lens, I just adjust the levels and contrast with PS and if needed I may add sharpness too.
This is the original photo without any PS work.

A nice variation on a common theme! Everything's sharp. As long as you've done a little Photoshopping anyway, why not get rid of the red-eye?
