About Yesterday it snowed..... something unusual for this part of the coast. Today the sun was out and so was my camera.
The type of tree that you see here is called an Arbutus tree, which naturally has this brilliant red bark that is smooth to the touch.

I have never seen such a tree before!I particularly like the snow-covered path here, it makes the place very peaceful .Also, I really enjoy looking at the three colours, red, white and blue.Very tranquil.

Hey Tim, Happy New Year to ya. Long time no speak but good to have ya back. I'm way behind with comments so may have to skip some. This is a great composition in keeping with your style of showing wide open spaces. Love it. Clarity is good so have you got your lense sorted out. I recall you gave it a nasty knock.

This is beautiful the way the sun hits the multi colored bark on these trees, and the view of the mountains beyond is amazing, you are right about the angle, not only does it draw the eye to the trees but also takes us along the path of the lone footprints. Alison

Hi John,
I think that you may be talking about Qualicum Beach, on Vancouver Island. That is very close to me . the mountains that you see in this photo are on that Island. In fact very near Qualicum Beach but further inland.
WE sometimes go all through winter without any snow at all. Usually if we get a dump of the white stuff it will only be around for a few days.

Hi Tim, good to see more of your shots, It's been a while...:)

I think the main difference between this photo and most of your other work is the strong separation between land and water. The line of trees acts as a barrier, after which the water starts. Eventhough there is a shore in the background, the trees seem to limit the view to the right of the photo, stressing the diagonal composition. In comparison to the others, where this transition is perceived to be more gradual, this photo is less "magic" and balanced. Hope you see what I mean. The post processing, with the high colour depth and saturation is as good as ever.

Cheers,

Hugo

I am very surprised that snow is unusual there. are the mountains on the mainland? I ask you this because my brother bought a house in quanticum an raved on about the view of BC.Now to the image, I think it is great and improved with that white stuff.

clear, Tim,
I agree with you that dynamics in composition becomes different and this is just on your decision.

Cheers,

Arnoldas

Hi Arnoldas,
I had the horizon skewed in that direction for a reason. It brings your eye back to the tree in subtle way. But I do understand your interest in the level perspective. What I am attempting is something similar in composition to what Chagall the artist did with many of his compositions.....I may not get away with it as he did. LOL
