About This is my neighbour Lawrence Nyberg, He is in the process of creating a mandolin. He described to me, the process of making the sound board that he is planning. It needs to be carved out by hand. I guess the very process and the individual piece of wood makes for the unique sound of one mandolin to another. The plane he is using here is over 100 years old...and still going.

Tim - I wonder what it is that draws musical craftsmen to your neck of the woods. I have an old classmate that moved up there long ago and he produces strings for such as cellos etc. I like the informal setting but It could IMHO be cropped to remove the bright lower left. All that bright wood drays my eye away from the artist. That way he would not seem to receed into the shadows as much. JB

Yes i have tried it in B/W too ...it was a toss up as to which one to post. I guess i liked the warm light of the shop in contrast to the cooler light from out of doors.

Wow, I play the mandolin but I only have a cheap one - if I come into some money and want to get a good one, I'll know who to ask! :)

Hi Tim, this is a magnificent portrait of a craftsman at work. He must be so skilled I admire him immensely. You also are displaying your skills too. The lighting is spot on and the shutter speed was perfect to show that Lawrence's right hand and the plane are moving. I have desaturated this shot and it looks marvellous.
Den
PS I will soon be getting to comment on some of your previous pics.

These are really interesting Tim, what a fun place to live. Everyones creativity must flow from all the talent around them. Nice shot of Lawrence, I hope we get to see more of your neighbors through your eyes. Alison

Just a pity you couldn't attach a sound file, Tim!
Another fine portrait of a craftsman at work.
Kind regards, Chris
