Dec.9.04 LONDON (Reuters) - A jailed cocaine dealer is working as Santa Claus on day release from a British prison. John Tams, who dons beard, boots and red suit to work in a cafe's Christmas grotto, said he wanted to give something back to the community.
"They know who I am and that I've done wrong but they have welcomed me with open arms," the 50-year-old said after helping to build the grotto with a fellow inmate.
Both are on a day release programme from a jail in Yorkshire, northern England.
"There were carefully risk-assessed. They do not pose any threat to the public," said a spokesman for the Home Office (Interior Ministry).
