Composition-lighting-originality- emotional appeal-overall..... Well, there is one measurable criteria lacking at usefilm... TECHNICAL QUALITY. Quality of exposure, of sharpness, of technical perfection. There is no measure of the photographers tecnical ability. Too bad, because this photo is a perfect example of WHY that HALF of a photographers skill needs to be measured.
This photo shows every hair on the head as well as in the moustache, every fiber in the shirt, all the texture in the background, stitches in the hat, shine on the nose..... journalistically. (And I am looking at it from a laptop.) THIS is a printable photo, with quality excellent enough to allow for the deterioration once screened for newsprint. even dot matrix would do this justice.
An excellent example of a photographers technical expertise, as well as an intimate capture of a real life person.
