That's not fair. A giant against this train. K, hope not sounding too stupid and I like this photo done in tough condition considering the bright light from the window. Maybe that was the effect you were looking for and hate the use of flash which would have helped the exposure here though

You did the best you could under the existing circumstances. She wasn't going to wait while you set up a big white reflector or calculated a fill flash setting, was she? The body language is still there, absent the facial details.

You like it, and so you should because it's a lovable photograph what with your child's morning "bed head" and tousled pyjamas. That wooden train set also gives me a train of memories! I got my son Johannes the same set for Christmas, I think he was three that year. He loved it, played with it for hours at a time. It's a classic toy, can't remember the name (Brio?). Most of the track pieces are lost now, of course. But that's part of the whole show, isn't it? Rgds, Svend

Good image. It's a hard light situation, will her face come out well enough. I think you did well. The train and her pyjama's look very spontanious. Great shot. Greets Tim.

Hi Stefan, I like the composing a lot. the BW fits the subject very well, and the blown out back adds some dynamics to the scene. you may add some lighting to the face, though ;-) (PS CS). anyway, great mood and toning. take care, thilo

Hi Rodrigo - it is the magnetically coupled trains which I too grew up with (as did most every Swedish kid I know). She has more than I ever had but I get to use them too :-)

Ha! I had the same train and wooden tracks as a kid, I think it had magnets to join the wagons. Any way I don't care for those technicalities about the face and the background I beleive the photo works very well, bad if you had used a flash. I like the memories that bring back to me. Saludos! I wonder where is my train and the tracks...

"They" who are they anyway? To me, photography is art... it's not about following rules or comparing your work to someone elses. It's all about pleasing yourself with your work. Afterall, if you're not happy with your work... well.. what's the point of doing it if you're not happy with it.
I like the lighting... in fact, I think it adds a "childlike" feel to the image overall. The emotion of the moment is certainly captured. The blown out window looks fantastic. Could you spend time in PS to lighten her up a bit, sure!.. but I'm not so sure it's needed.
This is a great capture with excellent framing... Great work!
