About
The School of Christ was managed by the Franciscan Order, between the years of 1543 and 1664. This church is very popular because of its colonial images, beautiful processions shown during Holy Week and its religious services or masses. It also was the place where Santo Hermano Pedro was waked when he died, on April 25th. 1667, before he was taken to San Francisco El Grande church for his burial. In 1689, the friars from of the San Felipe Neri congregation started preaching their religious message throughout all the regions that were part of the General Captaincy of Guatemala. In 1717, as a consequence of the donations barely received from the religious people and the earthquakes that constantly destroyed the place, it wasn't until 1728 that the architect of the city, Diego de Porres, rebuilt the church with a renaissance-style façade, four altarpieces, and an elevated space to place the choir
You have chosen the most interesting architectural details and presented them in such strong compositions. It's nice that you explain the interesting history of the place too.
