About This is a photo from Hornby Island where I am moving to in the next month. My house is just down the rock beach with a deck over looking this rock wall. Many of the locals come here in the evening to swim. The rock here is composed of sandstone that is formed into strange sculptural forms by the winter wave action durring storms.

great shot, tim! i love the feeling of the warmth of the light that you captured. Great cropping making for a really strong composition - i just get sucked right into this photo & can disappear off into the distance if i want or stay in the foreground & discover all that you've presented there. It's wonderful how all the texture in the water, rocks & trees is beautifully balanced by the open calmness in the sky. Beautiful. Simple & stunning. Well done! Hmmm...maybe i'll see you there sometime??? :O)

Hi Hugo,
I don't usually like to have photos of people in my landscape photos but in this case there is no choice unless I take this in the winter. there is usually somebody there enjoying themselves swimming or whatever. As to the color of the trees. That is the real color of them, the trunks are vibrant red color that peels back on itself revealing a brilliant avocado green underneath. So no filter just the dieing rays of the sun. As to what you see on your screen that is relative. When I look at photos on my wife's screen they are quite different on hers then on mine. The same goes when I am on my sons PC. you will probably never see it as I have intended as I will never really know what yours really look like for you. There is no constant yet in the internet world to resolve that..... well at least for the layman computer owner. here is a photo of the tree bark for you too. pretty wild color!

Cheers, Tim

WOnderful image, what a place to be moving to. I can almost feel the great textures of the rock. We were quite stunned by the rock formations in some of the places we went to.

Hi Tim, I've seen quite a few of your shots, which I left open in a different window, only to find out you removed them when I wanted to comment on them... A pitty, as they showed some very interesting themes, too.

The lighting in this photo adds a very warm and leasurely atmosphere. Well captured, the fact that the tree is cut off is not a common solution, but I think it balances the composition very well. The people enjoying the sunset places the size of the coastline into perspective, but also affect the atmosphere a bit. I think the the tranquility of this shot could've been stronger without them. I also feel a bit ambiguous about the strong saturation in the trees. Did you use a specific filter for that or where those tones as radiant and vivid as they appear on my screen?

Cheers,

Hugo

Great picture, and a beautiful place to wake up to. I love the texture in the stones, and the roots of the tree, and the intense sun you have captured. It looks like you will have another nice meeting pointe here. Alison

That is sure the place to kick back and relieve stress. I don't think I met anyone there that had any stress whatsoever, good luck. Lloyd

Hi Lloyd,
We were living there for 7 years before moving to Victoria. now that the kids have left for their own place in the world we are moving back to kick back a little, and hopefully have way less stress in life.

nice shot tim. your going to love it there. Very relaxing and so much opportunity for photography. If I remember correctly it has a few very talented artists already living there.
I love the lighting of the arbutis tree, well done. Lloyd
