In keeping with my " just for fun" theme this weekend I thought I would share this shot with friends at UF. This is a prime example of DOF or depth of field. Notice how originally I had the Elk in focus, next the gentlemen drapped with camera bags carrying ever thing him owns,and at least 50 yards from his car, walked into the photo and set up. See how he is in better focus than the woman with the binoculars who set up in a position farther away from the Elk than the Gentleman. She is not in focus at all. I fact by the time she got set up in the photo, my naked eye wasn't even focusing, if you get my drift. Being of slight stature ( 6'3" 330 #s, I had to believe they did see me. And so I waited untill they got done, and then carried on with my shooting. There is a simple lesson of etiquette here. When you are shooting where other humans are located in large herds, take a moment to look BEHIND you to see if by some small chance one of them might also have a camera and be trying to take a photo. The sad thing is I could show you several other examples of this same thing from each year I have gone to Yellowstone. Last year was however by far the worst. jimc
Jim, this is a great shot and a great leason to be learned, that humans, when hearding about, have little or no respect for other animals, or others of their own kind. And its no wonder they missed you, being a slender lad of small stature, LOL. I have that same size problem myself. Thanks for all of your kind comments on my work, those words comming from you, a truly great and gifted photogrpher, are greatly appreciated. Your work far exceeds mine, and I am awed by it. As you say, a great example of D.O.F., Jim!! Some people can be SOOO thoughtless!! But what really gets me about this photo, is that I can see the elk's horns but nothing else ~ though I guess that's his rear end sticking out from behind the woman's head!! Best regards, Chris
Gloria Do you really feel there is a fashion problem here ? I never even got to that part. yes people are rude, but then sometimes its not even that, they didn't have a decent up bringing and don't even realize that they have done anything wrong. thanks for viewing.
Hmmmm....the public is a rude lot, even with those of us, that always look and think before going for what we want. But some good came out of the display of self centered, unthinking tourists...we have a grand example of DOF and fashion blunders, lol....What is really frustrating, we have been robbed of one your great wild shots.....Gloria
This is what I would call antlers in the tree tops, by who goosed the moose. Isn't something when you get ready to take a picture and someone walks in front of you without even looking in your direction. Sometimes you can't wait the traffic out and just have to take it anyway. Great humor Jim. Don.
