.sunsets are such fun ..... how can you not like shoot them even if so many have done it before....I never tire of them. The color and warm lighting as well as the strong contrast usually makes for strong stuff. I would say that you have achieved that with this photo. The composition is good but it maybe could be better with the cropping. Hard to say without playing around a bit. I go by feel mostly, and that I think is how your personality starts to really become evident in your photos on a consistent level. Trust your instinct. I have been away for a bit so I'm going to check out more of your photos that I have missed.
Cheers, Tim

Excellent Linn,I think it is super just as it is,you did well using the rule of thirds.I would not crop off the forground the texture in the water is gorgeous.Wonderful for a first attempt, sounds like a lovely place to shoot off a few frames. Regards micky.

Hi Linn, I like this one the best, I wouldn't crop I like it as it is, that is because I just love golden glow on water, if it had been all just water then i would crop but you have some added interest in the foreground which I think breaks it up nicely. Great stuff for first attempt, so glad you are experimenting, it is such fun [and frustrating!] I have got Den's Nikon 8700 now he has his new toy, didn't expect to find it any different really from mine, but was nearly ready to throw in the towel. However say my grandaughter yesterday and went for a walk and think I have some 'decent-ish' shots. Will hopefully post something today Margaret

Awesome sunset Linn. Dont worry about damaging yr eyes looking through the viewfinder, that is only with a reflex camera when you look directly through the lens.

I saw the other one first ! I would remove more of the water on this one - but it is all a matter of taste. And it is what you want to capture that matters :-)

Thank you D :-) I suppose it was hazey? I guess we are so used to living in the city smog that we don't notice it anymore. Yes, no clouds - we live in a Summer rainfall and we are now in Winter. But you betcha I will be back there often :-) Actually, it is a very lovely set-up they have there. It is a country lodge (just a stonethrow away from where we live) that is bordered by our local dairy's grazing land. Lots of fowl, ducks, migrant geese, man-made (large) pond, cows - and of course it will be lush green in Summer. Linn

As the first sunset it is beautiful, I was locking to the parameters, you did use the slowest ISO, what you need to practice the "bracket exposures", use different sitting for different shot, thought it is with the rule of 1/3 and of center :).nice job, Saeed

Hi Linn I think your sunset is okay, the reflection on the water is beautiful. Shoot as much as you can and look to results afterwards, you have always the possibility of cropping if you want to follow the rule of thirds, but following your own feeling is much more important. Keep them going, Linn! Regards Ellen

Nice shot for the first one. I agree with Chris a bit of cropping on the bottom, then shoot like crazy and keep the good one. remember digital film is cheap ;-) In other word try different things and analyze your results.

Not bad for a first attempt. Next time try using a vertical format Also, take a meter reading in a part of the sky that has no sun in it, and use this as your expossure, this way it will help give you some deffination in the trees Another thing to remember when photographing the sun is never look directly at the sun through the view finder, it can damage your eye Hope this helps Jim Gamble

You're right Chris - this one is 1/4 sky, 1/2 land and half water - can definitely make use with less water. Linn

i like it very much, Linn. I'm no expert when it comes to technical things and i hardly ever take pics of sunsets, so there is not much i can help.

Well, now, Mrs. C., breaking new ground are we?! Or should I say, breaking new sky?! :-) Nice shot as it is, but have you tried cropping it to a panorama ~ i.e. chopping off the bottom third or so. I know you'd lose a little glow on the water, but I think it may just make a little more impact? Have a great Saturday. Kind regards, Chris

I think it?s OK, Linn. The reflections are great. The sillhouttes, nice. The flare is the only point that disturbs a little.. maybe 1 min later it wouldn?t be there. Sunsets and sunrises are decisive momments.. Welll done, Linn! Cheers! Carmem
