Yes indeed. I also hate using flash 'cos it will distract the colour, but I guess I got just a little trick, that is to use slow shutter speed with the flash turned on (just ordinary flash without TTL or something, low power/small guide number, or half/quarter the power), so that at some early miliseconds, the flash will light the subject and cast the shape, and afaterward, the color will be captured by long shutter opening. I'll show you on my next photo....
You are right,it is bit blurred,but it was taken at sunset and there was little light left,i did not want to use flashlight because this woul ruin the colors
