About This series of abstracts was shot as an study of lines and composition.

I decided to leave this image virtually unchanged, as I like the grainy effect, created by the digital zoom of my C5050z. I also deliberately left it in colour, as I think the soft early morining light adds more to this image than a B&W or sepia. Hope you agree....;o)

Actual settings: 1/800' @ f4,5 and 400 ASA.

Cheers,

Hugo

Very nice and creative works (not only this one, but the whole serie). Maybe I like mostly this one of these abstracts, but don't ask me why... maybe it's because of the lines, or the shapes, or the colors & tones.. or all of these together? Well seen.
Best regards, Alex

PS: I want to thank you for your very nice an constructive comments you made to my photo. I really appreciate it/them.

Hi Hugo, I waited until the triptych was complete, before posting my comment :) As this is an abstract series, it is easier for me to comment on the series as a whole than on the single images.
This particular one is the most complex in its lines, and has the most subtle lighting, and therefore it is the most appealing to me. Also the presence of the writings are less pronounced, which I consider as positive (for me, these very prozaic writings 'break' the abstractness of the images, if you understand what I mean). Nice to see how you could select three different images from one shot, very instructive!

By the way: I bought a second-hand C5050z today :)

regards,
Hermen

Hallo Hugo. Interesting the abstract, effective detail of the plane. Well, not grainy, little noise I think. This is only at ISO400 or if you use more than the 1/2 of digital zoom. I personaly use a T-con 1.4X. C-5050 also has a T-con at 1.7X and some information 'tell to me' that sortlly Olympus will have a T-Con at 2X or little more!!! (not only for C8080 but also a version for C5050 - C5060!!)
Best regards my dear friend. See you!

Aviation Abstract is decidedly a curios and original series, maybe the grain is too much digital, but you made the right thing to leave in color. Thanks for your comment, as always you touched the point, I know the photo is a bit dark, but more contrast would have increased the compression artefacts, so I decided to leave it as in the original (I only cropped it). Bye Max :)

Hugo, Hier was ik nog niet aan toe gekomen
Mooi al deze hoeken met zonlicht en hoeken in hte donker, een hele kunst om dit allemaal in evenwicht op de foto te zetten.
Maar abstract is geen gebied van mij.
Groet teunis

Hi Hugo,

the soft morning sun adds so much value in the hard metal context and the straight lines...

Spellbinding study!

Cheers,
Verena

The lines and rivets, with the shiny lights, made this composition an interesting abstract, the result of this work is amazing when you become to know the parts of those series,SAeed

Hi Tom, Thanks for your comment. I think you are right; should've cropped the wing off... I have considered it, but as with so many choices about composition, The final choice is always influenced by the mood (and time ;o) of day... I actually had one "upload ready" without the wing, but decided to convert it back to the original version which I finally uploaded.... Weird how such a process evolves...

PS: Next series will be a D100 one...

Cheers,

Hugo

hugo, very nice! and for the same qualities as no. II. however, i would crop out the lower left corner and show only the metal surfaces to "tighten" the abstract feel.

thanks for your comment on my latest. i never thought i'd be able to take a shot that you couldn't comment on ;^) i'm flattered!!

take care,
tom

The better from the series, for me. I like these perfect lines between pastel colors and a little grain effect.

Groeten Tim.

Hi Charlie, You have a point here. A high key image would definately work with this particular shot (maybe even better than the current version). The noise was not intentional, but a result of the digital zoom of my C5050z, a nasty habit of the camera. I chose to leave the image as is, as it is the third image of a triptych, where I tried to create an abstract composition of lines with a "simple" subject. I wonder if you like the other two better...

Thanks for your advise!

Cheers,

Hugo

dear hugo,
it is a nice try, but i believe especially in this case less had been more. as you may know i am an aviation enthusiast myself and therefore i have studied lines of aeroplanes for a long time.
the noise or the grain in the picture alone seems not to be interesting enough to me. your selected view would rather call for a very hard "graphic" display.
best regards

Great Hugo... I love the lighting... The grainy effect is great in the three pictures... The colors are very soft, which give it a very delicate look.. Great abstract Hugo!!!!!!

very nice graphical composition Hugo!
but i think ,in this case, the effect of the picture might become stronger without noise (differently from the previous ones in which noise was doing a good job!)

A creative exercise, Hugo, and pretty successful at that. One wonders how many separate pictures you could find in this one image! In the overall establishing shot that you included, there is a light source from the bottom, which gives the whole scene a little different look.

A very interesting shot Hugo. There are some beautifu lines and shapes within the picture space and of course the early morning light has just given it the extra ingrdiant it needed.
