Verry good. Here in South dakota they are very wild and nervous. If they see you from one hundred yards they are gone. It's weird because no one shoots at them or the Egrets. I would never find one in a park or even in the same place twice.

Yeah.. I know what you mean about the size and expense of the L lenses... I am looking at the 100-400.. but I still need a "street" friendly lens so may look at this lens. I know what you mean about the tripod...never have it when I need it although I do have a monopod which I am going to start bringing with me.

Thanks Paul, I took this handheld thanks to the Image Stabilizer on the lens. I don't think I would have got this using the tripod, I just turned around and there it was with the fish so I started shooting... a very spontaneous shot. I really love the lens and there was no way I was spending the money for an L lens with IS plus there are so big ? this one is still street friendly and for the money I?d say it?s well worth every penny . I?d buy it again if I had to with no hesitation. My resent shots of the Blue Moon, humming birds and waterfall are all handheld using the IS ? Hope this helps. Thanks again, Stuart.

Excellent picture! The lighting is fabulous! Congrats!!! Best regards Laszlo. Thx for your comment too... As far as DSLR concerned I?m waiting for the Photokina in September to see if the new 10D (Mk II???) would have specs. "good enough" for me. Your pictures with the DRebel are excellent: What is your opinion about the camera???

This is stunning. The lighting is so magical, and the focus forces me to see the sharp details and amazing quality.
The water flicking from the fish is also caught in amazing detail... you've truly captured the perfect moment.
This is a favorite for sure, and I'll be looking through the rest of your gallery shortly.

I see that this is not a crop but a different image. This one is just outstanding. The transparency of the fish without being blown out, the look in the bird's eyes and that blue in the heron is just beautiful. It is all wonderful but to me, seeing "through" the fish is the most unusual aspect of this photo for it represents something you could try for the rest of the life to reproduce without succeeding.

Majestic blue heron catches a fish and you catch the heron in-action!! Only a great birdwatcher gets such shots! Amazing clarity and detail, WOW is all I can say! If those are the water drops caught at 1/25o sec, AWESOME!!
