I'm gonna go to a flower garden to take some pictures.. I was looking through some floral shots to get inspired when I came upon this one.. seems as if you don't upload in usefilm anymore but as I really like the shot I though it might be best to drop a line... Beautiful shot al .. I love the lighting in this shot.. it has created beautiful tones and lovely little reflections on some parts of the flowers.. very well done.. I love the cropping too by the way .. and the DOF ofcourse.... I only find the outof focus flower in the forground abit distracting .. but just the same it's an awesome shot.. 7/7 My very best wishes.. aLi

beautiful floral shot! i really like the way you didn't focus on the front row, it makes it more interesting and gives it a nice sense of depth. the colors and lighting are excellent. its seems to me like the background wasn't naturally black but i really like it like that, it makes the whole photo pop! It's a beautiful crop! I really love the way the DOF works in this with the blending between focused and blurred stems and flowers. The mix of detail and color is outstanding. The bright blossoms stand out so wonderfully against the dark background. Am late to comment and haven't read the others, but it is obvious from the ratings and favorites that I'm not alone in my fondness for this image. Antonia

I love this...The one flower facing us, so brightly lit and colored, with perfect little petals, seems to be standing there so proudly and elegantly calling attention to the others. The backlighting is marvelous on these very thin and vertical strands making the colors varied and vivid..I love the combination of colors and the softness against that black background...love the diagonal, the vertical and the horizontal lines...excellent dof and yes I love the crop too...gorgeous image, beautifully presented...Nice to see you on the front page...Congrats....Hugs...:):)Linda

I like the crop. I think you've got enough repetitive purple flowers and bright green buds to be just perfect.
Great DOF, too! Wonder how dark the background was, looks darn near pitch black. Perfect light on the forground subject!

Andy the only way to know is use a loupe and see if the image is sharp. If it is sharp and colorful then your scanner is not working and you should goto a lab and have them do a sample scan. That way you can compare them and figure out what is wrong. You can also ask someone in a real pro lab to look, they will tell you instantly.

As soon as I get a moment to breathe Richard from the new site, I will scan more of my work. This has taken basically every waking moment and a few sleeping ones!
I tend to prefer art photography to the rest, but I enjoy a velvia moment or two once in a while too.
Thank you for the kind words.

Since you are frugal posting your images, I will continue. You would never get away with this caption, my friend, in the old camera club days. If you submitted a nature shot, you were supposed to research the subject and give a specific name to the flower in question. But, that has nothing to do with its qualities as image, does it? You have use a trick I favor . . . intensely backlit subject against a very dark backdrop. Then, the flowers that are within the dof just fairly pop out at you! In this you also have the repetition of the vertical stems working for you. There is the establishing pattern throughout, rather overall dark in tone, punctuated by the bright blooms. You make me wish I had my old 6 x7. No, not really. I couldn't afford the film!

Do I like the crop? No, I don't like it, I LOVE IT! For me it is what really makes the image. Apart from being technically a stunning piece of work (no need to repeat what has already been said in other comments)for me this image a beauty cause it gives me wonderful feelings. I love wild flowers and the way you captured this lovely ones makes them so real that it feels like I can reach for them, touch them, smell their sent. They are so little and delicate yet your crop makes them appear big and mighty, standing there proud of their overwhelming beauty of colour and shape. Altaf, this is brilliant work. I Love it and I'm adding this to my favourites. Thanks for sharing Regards - Emgy

You can also shoot briljant colour photoghaphes! The focus on the middel flowers is perfect, the blurry fore and background gives it a timeless, endless effect. Really really wonderfull. The colours are superb to, i like the pink of the flowers combining with the brown/orange/red of the field. Wonderfull. My compliments again! Greets, Lex..

Having not seen the original I think that this crop gives a lot of power to the purple flower on the right. I love how it's tilted into the frame as well, giving us a place to look into. This has gone straight into the faves folder, as the backlighting is gorgeous, the DOF perfect to pull my attention to that one flower, and the COLOUR! Are these California poppies? Hmm, just read some comments below and realise that I am repeating what people have already said, but oh well, you're hearing it again!

First off, I like the composition, the flower in full bloom just a hair bit above the rest of the buds. This one bloom seems to be getting extra life from the sun. I don't know what kind of flower this is, but some actually follow the sun during the day. Secodly, I like the baklit bloom seen from behind instead of dead on as the usual flower pictures. I like the sprinklings of red & green throughout. Nice scene.

Al, I'd like a little more room on the top...not much, but the tallest flower seems crowded. The bright flower in the lower right is distracting, but might look less so if it was burned in a tad.
Other than these minor nits, the image is very strong...backlighting, basic compo, DOF...all rock.

This image has a small band of sharp focus tending to throw the background and foregound out, concentrating on the subject flower and yet giving us plenty of context in which to place it. You have chosen a dark backdrop which really allows the backlit subjects to stand out like flames in the dark. It is a reminder that wildflower season will soon be here for my area.

Well.... Then I stand corrected, and am in awe....! Unbelievable.... ) (Oops, faux pas)But then: how did you create the blurred effect in the forground? And the even gradient in the black (!) background?
Then to the cropping, as it must be nearing the 6th or 7th time I've returned.... As a whole I think the composition is very well and evenly balanced... But since my attention is constantly drawn towards the two flowers (nice interaction between them, BTW) I think the crop could emphasise this a bit more by placing the two mirrored on the vertical centerline... (see attached image)
Cheers,
Hugo

Hi Al, I know you track everything that happens on UF, so you must have seen by now that 4 out of 5 views are by me...;) I'm quite surprised by your question... I'm still trying to absorb the work you did in PS.... Blur, Background change (Very well done) and apparently some cropping too?! The effect is is amaising, very original, and predominantly unusual. Stunning effect though. Impossible to answer your question or to give an honest rating....;)
Cheers,
Hugo
