Toni, it's funny how much this site helped me. I revisited this site yesterday...although the sun never got out of the clouds for sunrise, i took some presunrise shots. All of them at around f/22. You are right, the film didn't mess up, i did. Since this shot(2 months ago)i have taken about 6 rolls of slides...i'm getting used to the smaller latitude of slides. If any turn out from the reshoot, I will post in the next week or two.

Mike, I agree with the others. Also, I have thoroughly screwed up most of my opportunities by using the wrong film. I feel you used the best film here. This image will be great when you get the DOF right and decide what to do with the rocks. Master the DOF!

I did a bunch of shots on F22 and F27. They came out a little blurry from camera shake (I don't have a shutter release and the tripod I was is not the best). The sunrise pictures with Velvia turned out much nicer than the sunset pictures on Reala film, I took that day. This was the first roll of slide film I've ever used. When I got back the results, I could see that I wasn't used to the punchiness/contrast of the film...but I was very pleased with a few of the pictures. I will be back to this location at least once more in the next 2 months. I will reshoot with your suggestions (John & Artie's suggestions).

John summed this up very well for you Mike......however you nailed the exposure for a good sunset and that is a bit difficult for a lot of people......

It's cool how you have your wave curling. The color is fine but your DOF is too shallow. You should have it around f/16 or f/22 (really depends on the camera and lenses you use) since you have rocks in the forground that you want them sharp, as well as, the rest of your scene. Velvia is a tricky film to work with. The rocks and the sun are miles apart in exposure, so you gotta lose color in one or the other. You chose the right one, but the rocks are too black and lose that dimension that you want in a photo. Could be the scan too, I know that your tranny could have much more detail.
