About On a walk through the woods I saw that extraordinary big insect. Including the tail it was more than 4 inces (10 cm) long. Later I found out that it is a parasitic wasp placing its egg on maggots of other insects. It took the wasp 2 or 3 minutes to get into that position and insert its tail deep into that trunk of a dead tree where it must have found its victim.
