Great use of light and shadow, with strong contrasts and textures. The "halo" effect around the child, however, looks added digitally rather than natural, which I guess distracts me by calling attention rather than creating an illusion. Perhaps I'm too deconstructive, but I think the photo would have a stronger effect overall without the effect.

Thankyou for your note of explanation, Rui. I presume that the bright sunlight on his white T-shirt has caused white reflection back onto the shaded blinds, hence the apparent glow. This would explain why his head is not involved, since reflection off darker hair would be more muted. The varied shadow on the blinds might be from trees or other objects in the distance, shading the blinds in a patchy way. Certainly a very striking image. Thankyou for posting!

I didn't apply any dodge/burning effect in this pic. What you see, as a halo effect, is the result of a very low speed (probably...I think).
Here is the original without any treatment, only rotated 3 degrees to the left and resized.

An interesting idea. Why did you dodge the silhouette of the boy? Did you burn the surrounding curtain as well? I feel ambivalent about this photograph. On the one hand, it looks like a sloppy dodge and burn experiment. However I think I see what you are getting at. That partial halo also lifts his image into a more magical form. Certainly it stimulates imagination.
