About First real attempt at portraits and first time using tmax. Does this need to be cropped tighter?

in my opinion, the contrast in terms of light is negligible or not important. however, there is an emotional contrast of the soft natural background and his rock hard eyes and stand. and i think this opposition weakens the photo.

not bad for a first attempt Mike.......The stance and attitude is fine.........If you had a highlight or catch light in the eyes the image would be much more potent.....the left space needs to be 1/2 as much and as Chris suggested crop the top right up to the hair....like the sepia toning nice effect......

I like the off centered placement. Sepia tone is great. Image is clean and clear. Good job. As far as cropping goes you might could crop off some of the top to tighten the frame. I personally wouldn't want the crossed arms taken out. Good work Mike.
