Fantastic composition and pose here, Andrew, with that strong light terrifically captured and used. I like the way his face is swallowed by that shadow. And of course, would be great in BW as well. ;-)

One of my favorite photos by Mister Caldwell, for its bold color, assertive volumes, and its resemblance to newspaper art of the 1939 World's Fair (although I doubt that any of that art featured African-Americans). That art expressed a confidence in technology and a brighter "Tomorrow's World" through juxtaposition of stylized athletes (representing modern man) and machine elements (representing contemporary achievements). The nightmare of pollution and total war which that happy confidence led us to cannot dull the exuberance of that art.
