Hi there JD. Just a quick reply to you now that I am back from my usual weekend pursuits. I think your command of English is excellent. Yes, soon to be 70 and still behaving like a teenager at times. Hopefully I will never grow up and that I stay rather like Peter Pan . My eyes will eventually receive attention but the waiting lists for eye operations on our NHS are so very long. I will pop in and comment on more of your work from time to time and it will be in blah blah but you can be sure that I will comment because I like what I see my friend. Take care of yourself and be well..........Best wishes, Ray

certenly I do agree dear stingRay, a pity my english is not very fluent for a better conversation but I can see that even with 70 yo you are very wise man, I'm one of those persons that believe ageing do not always run in parallel with wisdom :) about this picture when i posted it i knew it was not my best (If i have something good;) and was prepared to accept bad critics, as i said there is no probem with that; good critics are an easy task, but you must explain bad critics, that's the reason Saad, Gary and many others are good net-friends thanks so much for your comment and time, really appreciate your visit btw, my sister is a reputed eye-doctor, i can make an appointment for you :) take care....txules

First of all JD some words about photography and UF photographers through the eyes of this older person (I'll be 70 later this year, yuk). We all post our work feeling that it was as good as we could get it, or that it fulfilled the purpose of making the shot in the first place. I often get people tell me about another crop I could have tried or that the contrast was too this or too that (and I couldn't care less about the rule of thirds). Now this is helpful, for even at my age I will learn something from the critique or conversely disagree with the comment. The point of it is I take a shot, like what I see and post it. These days I verge between being a crap to middle of the road photographer, certainly not a good photographer. I have cataracts and sometimes cannot see totally clearly (can you hear the violins my friend ). Secondly, regretably I fall into the catagory of being one of your dreaded 'Classic blah blah blah' commenters. I am not qualified to say what is right or wrong about somebodys' posting. If the photographer is a close friend and that I am apt to comment on all their work, or at least most of it, I will look for what is good about it and ignor anything bad because as sure as eggs are eggs someone else will tell them about any improvements that could be undertaken. If for instance the photgrapher is an associate I will only comment on what I like and ignor commenting on that which does nothing for me. Cos, as I said, I ain't qualified. Last point and the arrival of some blah blah . I like what you set out to achieve in this shot. The tones look great and the lighting around the old lady's face is excellent, the heavy grain is a further enhancement, IMO. The details are superb and the emotions of this lovely candid model are clearly seen. NOW Gary is right, Saad took it one step further and posted a new version which is great and probably what you would have preferred to have done for yourself. BUT, my dear JD, you didn't need me to tell you that because you have Gary and Saad which leaves me free to comment on what I like about your work. Hopefully you haven't fallen asleep reading this my friend and I do apologise for ranting away. My very best wishes to you and I will always be in awe of you guys who experiment with our chosen hobby while I lazily continue on with the boring convential stuff. Take care, be well.........Ray

in fact if i would erase the image is a 50% due to your comemnts but the other half is becasue I'm not convince myself; I think is a good exercise post these kind of pictures for getting the advice of the others, prefer bad critics than the clasicc bla-bla-bla Thanks Saad txules

erasing a shot that not satisfy some friends is against my opinion,DO not, keep it as a witness of our humanity,we can not satisfy every bodies taste.and in this we,as they are...... Humans. after all it is up to you,and I agree with your decision,my regards, Saad.

A ver... a mi no me molesta tanto.

it works fine Saad, thanks for take take your time, a very nice approach indeed. As i said in the "about" is an overdone portrait, it works rarely, two of my best friends, you and Gary do not like, and i consider your opinion a lot; wait for more comments (if there are any :) and I'll consider erase it thanks again Saad...jd

you have reached your extreme limit I think,it will work for me as a portrait only after you burn every thing ,and keep the the outlined face by the the narrow strip of light, and this only my taste, this is a haste editing, you could do it so finer than me, my regards, Saad.

do not apologise my dear friend, I always want honest comments and I know i can expect this for you; about "justice as a protrait" it would be a good debate to talk about manipulation of the images in this digital era and about cropping the upper part i think you are right thanks Gary for your continuos support and wise critics peace brother txules

I like the line of light along the profile but it seems a little dark and grainy to do this woman justice as a portrait. Also the upper part of the image appears superfluous to me, so I suggest a much closer crop. Sorry for the honesty mate, but it's not often I criticise youe work! Regards, Gary
