It was clear that this was a wide wide angle, Valerij, but not in any case as wide. So thanks a lot for telling me, and also for the rest of the info about the image!
Your decision for cloning off the other buildings and the people did work well. I can imagine that the special "emptyness" wouldn't be as strong otherwise.
Still, the lighting effect could also have been much weaker if the lighting balance wasn't as good, the latter being only attributable to your careful metering/capture.
As about the cactus... well, go for it! I already know that you will do exactly as well as with your other images, even if you have less interest for flowers for the time being. And to tell you the truth... better some few and *good* images of flowers than for example my many images of them that do not manage to hit the point.
Cheers!
Nick

Hi Nick. You did notice strange lighting pattern. But you've missed its origin. The source of this image was a 360 degrees panorama made with 10.5 mm Fish Eye. I cropped the pano so here we got about 300 degrees. The lions actually are parallel and they look in the same direction. And I stood between them. There were some modern buildings on the horizon, I cloned them out. And a couple of people too. By the way, a cactus in my flat has started blooming. The flower is big and appealing. I think tomorrow I’ll post the first image.
Regards, Valerij

But the days of glory of photography are here with us yet, as I see with joy! What a great lighting-perspective combination that converts the scene to some kind of a presentation of a theater play! The endless DoF and the crispy details surely contribute a lot too, but that light balance is admirable, Valerij! Only the face of the right sphynx is just abit less rich in details, which I guess had to be for enhancing that kind of light everywhere else!
The extrem care with which you seem to make your images is very well visible here. And as such it also underlines that kind of serious and strict "mental" light under which such scenes have to be viewed for getting something more than the typical surface of things.
Cheers!
Nick

this is a nice clean image. there is a sense of grandeur. I assume this is a relic from the time of the tsars?
