I'm sure this is not the most well known area of the lake District but it is very pleasant and Lorton itself quite idyllic. The sun had been threatening to break through beneath a veil of dense cloud for some considerable time but I had just about despaired of it doing so when a stream of blood red light flickered over the tallest object, Lorton church and nothing else was touched. The pale walls reciprocated by glowing like the embers in a forge.
