Thanks Tim and everyone who commented, I really lucked out on this cooperative bird. At the time I was wishing for blue skies, but the bright overcast ended up giving it more of a dramatic setting.
I like the D300, but so many buttons! I'm not a technically inclined person so it was a bit of a learning curve, and there's a lot of features I haven't even touched yet. A little bit at a time...

Love this shot Chelsea! dramatically simple and powerful. Hey, how do you like the D300? It has been a real uphill challenge for me with it. So many options that it will take quite a while to get the images out of it that I envision.....by the looks of your shots it is doing you very well. Cheers, Tim
