About It has been a long drought, the temperatures are increasing and the rains don't come. What was once pasture, is now barren and cracked. An arid, scorched landscape.
This is for Francesca, who inspired me to play with this technique. Thankyou, I have had a ball!

Love these out of border images. One Ive not yet learned to do but would like to. Great piece that works well with the process. You have done and excellent job with great technique and high technical excellence. Great lighting and excellent textures. Love the broken ground and lovely tones.
Excellent post processing with good visual and initial impact. Great work!

Hi JD, good rains followed by.... nothing for weeks. The rapid green growth has turned into crunchy brown fire hazard. Just about to go into level 3 water restrictions. Had hoped Cyclone Nicholas might send a drop or two our way. Oh well that's Australia for you!!
As far as hints go.. I tried to locate Francesca's image to lead you to a great example, but she seems to have removed all her images? Francesca told me to Google "Out of Bounds". That was really helpful once I had spent a day or so deciphering it. Great learning curve! Good luck, looking forward to seeing the results. CC

Yes, I agree with you on the barren bit, but since you submitted this we, thankfully, have had some good falls. I have just come back from your way mid Jan and the situation seem st have eased a little. North Western Victoria is feeling the pinch, yet there hasn't been water restrictions in Broken Hill for a number of years!
I like your presentation here. Maybe you might like to give me a couple of hints...
Cheers fo now,
JD

Very nice composition, use of white space and unusual shape and overlap are well done. What software do you use to do this?

Hi Chris, great to hear from you! I was directed to help with "Out of Bounds " work by a lovely usefilm lady called Francesca(who has no images displayed at present).
The directions she gave me are passed on from me to Mary Brown on my image Too Much Christmas Cheer. I would love to pass them on to you too, so please check it out. It makes me feel kinda special to be able to help out one of my mentors! CC

I love the technique, wonderful job.......but I am also can't figure out how you do it? Can you share the basics so I can try such things? Point me in the right direction? Appreciate it, and I love what you have done with this one.

Again? Your rain didn't last? Personally, I think Mother Earth is preparing an eviction notice for us.

This is a very well done piece, Cathy. I like it a lot. The presentation is just fabulous. I've been planning on doing a little more of this type of "out of the frame" post work but haven't had the time or found the right photo. This is one of those photos that it works well on.

Best wishes,
Dave

Thank you very much for this lovely comment Davide. Funny you should say you would like to see more..since I discovered this technique last week I have played with many photographs, and was tempted to put some more on Usefilm, but I don't want to overdo it. But maybe I could get away with one more??? CC

Well, at the moment, it's not getting a lot of use. I just can't quite make head nor tale of it. :) I'm going to join the local camera club, next week. Hopefully, I'll get some guidance, there. :)

Yes, I promise I'll let you know in advance if we're going to visit in October. It would be great to grab some shots with you. :)

Say 'hi' to them all out there! :)

Hi Phillip, great to hear from you! I am so glad to hear of the new addition to your family. You know...now you and I and Chris Perrin are triplets! Chris got his new lens like ours recently.
The quality is unsurpassed. Occasionally I see images on Usefilm where the quality stands out, so I check if they are a D200, and they always are. Hoping to see you in the hols, to catchg up on a photo shoot that never quite eventuated. CC

Thankyou very much Beks. I was inspired by a wonderful image created by Francesca. She led me to some tutorials on how to do this. I have had the most fun all week playing with heaps of photographs. If you want to find the site for the tutorials, Google "out of bounds tutorial", and check out Francesca's image it won BIP!
This is so much fun (but it could send you blind-its addictive!)

Hi Kathy

Very nicely presented. Dad was telling me tonight how dry it is out there....what a worry with summer fast approaching!

Hey, I've just bought a D200 and the same lens as you! :) I'm trying to work out how to use it, now. I think you need a degree to understand the workings of the camera. After using Hugo's D100 during my time travelling around with him, I got hooked on the feel of the camera, not to mention to quality of the image. I just had to buy a new camera when I came home....much to Karen's disinterest! :) :)

Have a look at my calendar: http://www.dwmimages.com/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=41

We must catch up soon! We have only been to Orange once since last September....for 5 hours on a day in April...we came up to see Mum and Dad's new villa. We hope to come again in the October school holidays. I'll look you up if we come.

Take care!

Phil

Incredible pp work Cathy!!! Simply amazing.
Looks like it is shaping up to be a long, hot summer, as Spring comes bounding through the door. We have had wonderful, warm days and mostly mild nights for about the last two weeks down here in Victoria.

I can't stop looking at the work you have done on this....the mind boggles!

cheers and congrats on such a great image, Beks
