About Another one from the same day as "the turn", and a bit more into the niche of comics/graphics. I am inclined to say that a crop that includes the bottom half would be more dense but at the same time much of the atmosphere would get lost. Or wouldn't it? Any ideas would be very welcome here.

Anyway, the intention was to make it look a bit like charcoal and thus the rather lazy focus, darker colors, and overall texture. The latter was also enhanced by the snow storm at shooting time.

Oh well, Andre, even Eddie Van Halen plays best on his 70$ Frankenstrat! ;-)

Which makes me think if I should cut a circular piece of that window glass. They wouldn't mind, I guess, since the diameter of the hole would be so tiny compared to the size of the window?? ;-)

Best wishes,

Nick

Many many thanks for the nice comment, Dave. Indeed the atmosphere was very inspiring for trying that out. Now, if that "nt" hadn't been there, as Doyle already pointed out...

Best wishes,

Nick

Exactly, Doyle! Sad but true! That "nt" jumped into my eyes right after posting the image! I hated it! So lemme wipe it out of this universe, that darn thing! (And imagine what it could mean: "Nick Taragiaouroglou"? Or even Win NT - for "Neanderthal Technologies" or perhaps "Never Tested"? ;-))

Thanks a lot for the nice comment and the remark on that "nt"!

Cloned off the "nt".

Hi Nick,
Yes, I think I've mentioned this before with some other members.
It's ironic that we spend hundred and sometimes thousands of dollars for almost perfect optics, and then some of our most creative images are taken through a foggy, dirty, diffused window. :)
I guess that's the way it goes sometimes.

An excellent street shot, Nick, with lots of atmosphere created by the weather and the lights on the street. Very well seen and captured! I like the composition here, too.
Dave.

Nick:

This shot is GREAT! I love the feel of it more than anything. It's almost like an impressionistic image due to the snow and the weather seems to really add an element of depth on its own as the visibility decreases with distance. I'm also digging the composition. The only real distraction I can see is the clear, white "nt" in the center left . . . seemingly protruding from the building. Your oncoming lights and reflections are great but the red lights make a wonderful accent.

Excellent work Nick!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Yes, Andre, the angle of the first one is very much comics-like, while this one is not as spectacular considering the angle of view. I think still that it retains those gothic elements that fit some kind of "batman" comics, but in some more "classical" way.

Perception does play an immensly important role, of course, be it for images or anything else. But I am very glad to see that you also have the impression of "close to painting", since that is my own impression too.

Just for the record here, the consitions outside did help very much but it has also been the normal dust and dirt on the window though which I took that. Sometiems windows are better filters than any expensive professional equipment, it seems! ;-)

Best wishes and thanks again,

Nick

Era más para el tacto gráfico de la novela, Marcelo, con todas esas actitudes grandes de la historia de la ciudad. Pero conjeturo que melancolía en el sentido de los ajustes también cínicos de la melancolía muy bien también.

Agradece mucho!

Hi Nick,
The conditions were just right for creating that dark, gritty look of the graphics/comics. You did a nice job on both of these that we have seen so far. The first one "The Turn" has a bit more of the "comics" look to it because of the severe angle favoured by comic artists. This one has the same flavour, yet keeping it straight, I think turns it from comic to painting for me. I guess it's all in the perception.
