Thank you for your comment Cathy.
Well some will probably say that a tripod is essential to clear telephoto shots, but I actually used the one I took a total of zero times and found it considerably easier to brace the long lens on my arm which I rested on the roof of the truck. I think some of it might come down to the same principles of marksmanship in terms of controlling your body and most importantly your breathing while you shoot.
This is an immature lion, which is why it still has the spots along the belly and legs. We found a group of them sleeping (they sleep up to 20 hours a day, and you thought house cats were bad), five young ones and two mature males (the fathers got stuck with baby-sitting duty for the morning). I'll try and post another shot at some point which shows the spots better.
I guess I am now a fugitive of two debates, a rebel against both the rule of thirds and tripods.
Do your little clients have any requests? I seem to remember them liking the cats and monkeys most.
All the best, Ed

How do you get your images so clear? There is so much detail in the face, right down to the fly on the nose. Love the look on the face, nice highlights in the eyes. Looks like a healthy animal, and not very old??? Not many battle scars. CC
