Joe: Love these little females too. We have two or three pair right now and we are hoping they are steady residents for the summer. Thanks again for your comments on my birds. We're going to (way)upstate NY in July so hope to see some of the northern birds then.

This was a very small finch, I think you are right, she wore herself out on the migration. I'm sure she will quickly get weight back from feasting on our feeders.
Sounds like quite the hobby your dad had. Would take a lot of work and time, as well you would have to become very knowledgeable on the habits of these birds.

My Dad bred finches and parrots, among many other birds, in large aviaries... This one looks a little slim after winter, spring will fix that though...:)))

Yes i have read that the canon long lens when in auto focus is fast and good for sports but not as accurate as Nikon with their auto focus. Mind you the Nikon takes far longer to get it together at the same time. I have found this to be a bit frustrating as well. The zoom perspective is a whole another world compositionally too. AHHHH the bird feeder!!....lol...putting out the big bucks for photos...not fair!

Thanks Tim, I really appreciate the comments. I'm glad you like the shot. It takes a lot of patience to get shots of these little song birds and keep filling the feeders helps. I'm just getting used to the new lens, at first I wasn't too impressed as I got a lot of soft shots but they're looking better.

I see ya got the big guns out to shoot this puppy! excellent capture. I have been trying to get a few bird shots as well. Heh, you don't see them posted though. I have not been anywhere near as successful as you. your DOF is perfect!
