Hey Tim ... You are 'Donor of the Day' today on the Front Page even though you are no longer a 'Donor' but that is quite alright with me!:))

Hey Thanks EB, I bought a new body as a back up so that won't happen again. Anyway now i have a body for both of my 2 fav lens I won't have to change lens all the time now as that was allowing dust into them. The dust storms in Argentina were huge and constant. So that was another big concern. I am really trying to get a good traveling kit together that has internal back ups for most situations.....but then you know karma is inventive and i am sure there are more sunrises down the road...lol

Tim -- Congratulations on having this selected for Donor Image of the Day. This beautiful scenic rightfully deserves recognition for the quality, depth and detail. The D80 may have been limping but I think you and the D80 ran a sprint when taking these pictures. Well done. --Best to you, Jan

I dream of Visitng The Torres Del Paine, I have been to Santiago twice in the last 2 years but could not get time to fly and then hike to Paine.
This year also I may have an opportunity to visit Chile again and I will try to visit Paine and also Ushuaia.
We yave a huge Photographers group in orkut and many of our members bought the D200. I went for the D80 as it was lighter and takes SD cards. Im alo Asthmatic , so carrying heavy loads becomes a problem sometimes.
Thankyou again for sharing those amazing shots , love it. Im scheduled to visit the US in June and will give you a call from there.

Hi Debarshi,
Torres Del Paine is on the Chili side and with different peaks. This bunch of peaks is on the Argentina side in Parque Nacional Los Glaciares. The nearest town is at the base of them, called El Chalten. If you go to Argentina this would be a must to visit in my opinion. We were there a week and it was not enough really. The cloudscape combined with the mountainous landscape is beyond fantastic. the access is very easy hiking from many different areas depending on what you want to see. As to the Camera it is fixable and so is my lens, i hope. I picked the D80 over the D200 because it was lighter and the quality was comparable. But the weight was a big factor for hiking. So if i had to buy another camera i would stick with the D80 for now.

the fact that u could take 1000 shots with a half drowned camera is impresive. So now what ? the D200 ?

another ripper shot Tim .. just nothing short of marvellous you were so lucky with the skies.. I am reminded of Carol Drew who was said to have the power of witcchcraft and could conjour up clouds to which she replied "I see a cloud and then drive around looking for a landscape to put under it" another great shot

All is not lost David, as it is working well enough without some of the auto functions....hey it works just like the old cameras now...good thing i still remember how to shoot in basic mode...lol I did have to take the lens apart in the field to dry it out and it may never be the same after i got my dusty mitts on the insides...but it still shoots sharp shots! So i was happy enough.

this was before the accident, the next ones were after the water story...lol...and man i am so careful about stuff like that, to the point of driving my girlfriend nuts. Guess Karma somehow needed to bring humbleness to my life, and hey it is just a thing really and my life and limbs are in good shape...so just one of those learning lessons where you get to see how you react in situations of stress...guess i failed this time...hehe...but recovered in in good time.

Well, as the saying goes, it could have been worse! Glad you were still able to get some shot, though and if this is an example it was well worth it, Tim! This is really rugged country, and you've captured it in your usual grand style! I see you waited for that great lighting and caught it with some dramatic clouds around. Hope you can get your camera fixed for the rest of the trip! Dave.
