About These are old slides and i did not have a scanner so i projected them on to a screen and reshot them with my D80. This is why they are so fuzzy and a bit old style looking. This is a shot of me on the "Leaning Tower" in Yosemite California (1981). It took 2 full days to get to the top and the face is leaning out 110 degrees overhanging. I am climbing with a now well known woman climber Lydia Bradley from New Zealand. She was the first woman to climb Mt. Everest (1988) without oxygen. the next photo i post will be of her leading a pitch on the 2nd day.

Hi Dave,
Yes I was just relating to a friend the constant sense of fear throughout the climb some times for up to 6 days was very wearing. And yet the ever presents of imminent death lurking so closely brought a real feeling of being alive and in the moment. That I think is what I miss from that time. Also the exploratory aspect of myself that is keen on being where few have been before. I am intrigued with the feeling of being small in comparison to the world. Humans build such a sense of self importance and these type of situations allow you to be just a little more humble...hmmm...and yet the EGO builds at the same time....a big battle. Wisdom is the only help as to which one you might choose.

First thing I thought was, you don't still do those big walls, do you Tim.... Then I read your 'about' description. I have a few of these slides as well, though never at Yosemite. Can't say I miss the danger, though that feel of warm breeze in the face and constant exposure is unforgettable. I'm glad none of my kids got serious at that game. Nice photo.

I'm very happy to have made your aquaintance, Mr. Schumm. I was also impressed by your feats, both physical & art-wise. This excellent photo of yours reminds me of times also I had to resort to all kind of tricks to convert my ancient photos to the language a computer understands.
I think it a special privilege, not having an artistic background as my profession, to have received your kind comment on my photo. Best regards,
Rafi Springmann
