Thanks Norma. Words like yours blow on the fire of my love for floral pictures.
The background is the problem number 1 for macro and floral pictures. Three main ways:
The simpler: search a clean bachground. Your orchid was surely in a vase so you could put it against a white wall ...
Easy enough: a dark or black BG. You expose with Spot in the highest light on the subject that must have shadow in the back. The stark contrast will made all alone.
The most difficult way for close shots is trying to blur the BG. It is succesful only if the BG is far enough from the subject and you can use large aperture.
But the most important thing is make pictures, experiment, make more pictures and more experiment!

Wonder no more. I love the little viola and I am so impressed with the lighting and framing. How do you create that very black background in so many of your exquisite flowers images? Is that done in ps? I want to purchase a black cloth for portrait backgrounds [just doing my beautiful grandchildren] but what fabric? What would you use? I hope you don't mind my questions. I'd really appreciate any help you can give me. I am just an outright fan of all of your work. I check your portfolio very regularly. And there is always another lovey surprise.

Brava Elisa, you are right. Photographically your version is surly better composed. But the emotions condition us. The memory, the emotion for this little violet is a high coloured spot lighted by a little ray and lost in the dark shade in the thick of a bush. That's way I am pushed to leave a bit of the atmosphere.
I am very gratefull for the advise and the wish of helping.

bella davvero questa viola a colori ... il fatto che fosse in penombra esalta ancora di più i colori! (non sono riuscita a capire cosa sia quella cosa verde scuro appoggita (?) sulle foglie alla base) :-) bravissimo coem al solito!
