I think I understand what you were trying to do here. There are a couple of things working against you though. The contrast range in the scene was too great to get both the deep shadow and the bright highlight in the same image. The film can't reder that much contrast separation without some development alteration. The scene is too complicated too. Because the background is still in some focus it doesn't separate from the foreground making the image somewhat flat. There is no dominant subject here either. Though it isn't always necassary to have some object be dominant in an image, most of the time it is needed. The whole scene here isn't strong enough.
