Very nice shot of the Heron. Contrast and lighting are excellent as are the colours. I like the typical sitting and waiting position of the Heron, and you certainly have captured it nicely. The background is great too. Well done, best regards.

Hi Marcus-- Thanks for your comments here-- I'm not from Lodi, but I took this at Stone Lakes Reserve near Lodi-- I was actually there on a tour that was part of the Sandhill Crane Festival (I took three tours). I did get some shots of the cranes, but none turned out so well, as you said, they are very shy and hard to approach. The festival was a good way for me to learn where to go to take pictures, Woodbridge was one of the places we went)since I'm not that familiar with the area. Taking photos of birds is very new to me, so I have much to learn-- I look at your portfolio, as well as Yamil's, and I see how it SHOULD be done-- you guys are great, and are a real inspiration.
Thanks again for the comments.

HI C.A. very nice capture of the GBH, I really like the nice lighting and tones, the classic pose is very appealiing... I see your from Lodi, Have you been out to the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve to shoot the sandhill cranes? I was through there a couple of weeks ago and did see thousands of them, didnt get any of the classic poses as then still seemed a bit shy... Keep up the wonderful captures .. Marcus

Hi Bill, thanks for your comments. As far as sharpness at the long focal lengths go--yes, I've had some. It's called ME. I don't hold the camera steady enough without support. This shot was taken using an Ergorest support, and I have a good tripod on order... VR simply isn't enough for me. I took some earlier today without any support, and they are hit and miss... I need to work on my technique so I can do justice to the equipment. Practice, practice, practice!! Good luck with yours, the equipment is awesome :)

Hi Christine, Very nice Heron you caught here. Don't know how I missed it before but I see your useing the same equipment I am. I too have a D200 with the 80-400mm Vr. Have you had any problems with sharpness at long focal lenghts? Bill
