in some ways I think the plaid pants might and I do mean "might" be better if that person was dead center and you were shooting straight across the car
having said that, I like this a lot and it has an oddity to it that makes it stand out from countless subway car photographs (I have taken a few without much beyond mediocrity as a result)

wow, everyone has a bag, don't they? and some funky shoes. you know they only made ONE pair of those shorts, roger. you'd best hope she's not on usefilm. HAHA. great shot! i love your train shots. glimpses of humanity. esp since we're in the boonies and drive our car to places and then get out. you know?

Well now, this is DIALOG! Thanks for getting back to me. Must admit it was those fluorescent shorts that grabbed my attention... [grin] and then she kindly bent over and I just couldn't resist taking a shot. I think I got the decisive moment. One of the most satisfying results I've achieved recently. (Been in a bit of a slump, to be honest.) Nice application for high saturation, too!

Maybe it was the wine after a hard day, but your image became a topic with me and my wife. I had the image up after I sent my comment to you, and my wife (the one with the 4 years of photography in school), says, "Ya know, that's a cool image, and I like it wide like that...your crop is too square".
So that was last night.. this morning, with my coffee, I open my laptop, and there's your image, still there from last night.
Well... I was so wrong! your angle is amazing! In a much cleaner state of mind, with no stress (yet), I took in, and enjoyed every little detail. Wonderful plaid shorts. honestly... wonderful.

Thanks, Joel. I think if I had wanted to cut out the plaid butt, I would have taken the people more square on. The exaggerated perspective of the very wide-angle lens works against this crop, I feel, whereas it leads your eyes to that butt in my crop. It WAS a crop, by the way. I was shooting from the lap, not looking through the finder, so I used the widest lens FL to be sure of getting everything in and cropped later. Roger,
I so enjoy that you're getting bold with your images from the train. They are amazing! The clarity, and slice of life is so wonderful!
Since you did post this as a "Critiquer's Corner", I took this chance to see what you think about the sugestion of a tighter crop to give this more of an intimate group portrait. I've attached an idea of what I was thinking. I *love* your posted image.. I just wanted to see what you thought of this crop.
Brilliant image! I love how wide you shoot, and well you capture your life in Tokyo. Your images take me there every time!

Funny shot, funnier title! I love the way everyone is apparently unaware of a photo being taken, especially as you can hardly poke the lens of this machine out from between your shirt buttons... Can't believe you had it up to your eye - did you hold it in your lap and "hope" the composition together? I'm intrigued, having just splashed out for a DSLR and wondering how I'm going to manage without my discrete 90 degree flip-up viewfinder.
There's a great range of colour here - and not just in those shorts. Shoes, laces, plastic bags. It's an altogether fascinating shot.

LOL. What a great wide angle and a lovely shot of those sleeping people. It must be boring on the subway/train. I notice you had it on automatic. The lighting is beautiful.
