Ah Lara!!! Indeed... I adore pre Raphelite, so you have paid me a huge compliment. I now have the image without the burn out on the back of her hair which I will post here. I feel it is better.
I very much appreciate your taking the time to view and comment on my work. :)

Thank you Gabino!
It was easy in this case to get near the performer as I was in the front row at the closest point to her. Indeed, a fast lens and I can happily shoot slow shutter speeds. I follow this lady around a lot. She is a wonderful musician. It is not always so "easy" however to get good shots of her when I am stuck a few rows back. I have been known to sneak up closer to her, being as unobtrusive as possible. I have also done quite a few promos for her for newspapers, magazines etc. We are now friends. She "tolerates" me and my camera! LOL! (In fact, I also shot her wedding!)
Best Wishes, Aniko :)

Slow shutter, fast lens (I'm sure), and ISO 1600. What a great combination for low light work How did you get so close w/ a 50mm? This is what photography is about. Knowing how to use your equipment to produce amazing work like this!

Thank you so much for the tip, Dear Shirley.
The original print (PS version, as I always rephotograph what I consider to be my better shots so I can frame them etc...) has no burn out whatsover!!! I am having the scanner looked at and hopefully "fixed" today... I will then see what happens when I rescan the image. Hopefully I won't have to work the image again in PS... but I so appreciate your thoughtfulness and will remember what you have told me. Valuable info!!! :)
Warmest Wishes my friend, Aniko :)

Warm thanks Dear Mary!
I am pleased to say I photographed the PS image when I had made it (as I do when I am pleased enough with something like this and frame and even manage to sell a few...) I prefer to use film to shoot the PS results, have prints made in different sizes, and it is one of these prints of that image which I scanned, so I don't have to go through the procedure of doing more PS on the initial shot at the performance. I am not happy with my scanner. I am having it hopefully "fixed" today and will rescan the image and see if I can rectify the back of head hair "burn out"... It is not in the original image or the PS version, so I am disapointed the scanner refused to give me a good rendition as I carried it into PS just to save it so I could upload it here!
Anyway, i ramble on... lol...I am pleased you like the way I "treated" this image in PS.
Much Love, Aniko :)

My own solution to the 'burn out' would be to layer...a darkened version with a the correction version, and use the transparency tool just over the burned out areas, to whichever degree works. A very beautiful painterly image, Aniko!:)

Wow, Ani, you certainly succeeded! It indeed looks like a painting, and not something that just had a filter applied.
Impressive!

And a fine job you did in PS, too. I like the results. Of course, it had to start with the right picture, shot at the right angle and properly composed, correct? Good job, my down under artist.
Best wishes, Dave

Thank you so much Dear Yoshiyuki!
I feel I nearly managed it. I am not happy about the slight "burn out" of her hair, but could find no way to "fix" it... my patience ran out... lol...
Your kind comments are warmly appreciated my friend, Aniko :)

The hair, the dress all very much remind me of Renoir and the PS techniques you've used have been most effective to this end.Time to bin the scanner I think, those burnt out highlights spoil the photo. Excellent work,...........Tony

Thanks so much Bek!
She is a very talented, dedicated focused composer/pianist. I have been to many of her stage performances and never tire of hearing and seeing her.
I have a lot of her images of to work with, but I thought this one would look the most olde worlde and painterly.
Thank you again for your kind, thoughtful comments.
Always appreciated. Hugs~ Ani :)

Hi Ani....I very much like the feel here, the techniques you have applied certainly give a painted effect. I love the composition also, she looks very focused and her costume and hair are suited to the mood you were after. Great job!! Hugs, Bek:)

Thank you very much Phillip!
My scanner is not functioning well and tends to burn out lighter parts of an image... no matter how I callibrate it, it doesn't want to co-operate. This was the best I could do with my limited patience. LOL!
I am pleased you like it. I was deciding whether to post it or not. I'm pleased I did now :)
