Beautiful....
The hues in this image just called to me like a siren. Gorgeous reflection.
Hugo's suggested solution is intriguing. I'd love to see the results.
Another possible suggestion? Not sure, but what about going the other way...a vertical pano. Then again, maybe not.

Hi Sam,
I really like how the monument stands out in this shot, great combination of colours too, and well exposed.
I always find the difficulty with these photos that the silhoettes both left and right of the monument seem to be a bit excessive, offering too much peripheral information. Another thing is that the only way is to place the horizon on the centerline of the composition, too.
I'm wondering if there would've been another acceptable approach here by taking this shot, similar view in panoramic format, placing the horizon on the lower 1/3 of the image, without cropping off the golden reflection, but adding more of that fantastic sky, yet reducing the amount of silhoettes on the horizon. It could be another alternative, but I'm not quite sure if it would work - appeal wise.
Cheers,
Hugo

Thanks Bro,
I think I am going to like this new SIGMA 24-70mm Lens. I can't wait to put it to use with you this weekend. I think we are going to have to take a shot with the canon version and then the sigma and compare the two shots. Love ya man. Sam

My immediate reaction was - I am leaving the Nikon fold. I have had some interest in the Canon 5D for some time now.
Your portfolio has some of the best images I have seen from a digital camera, considering they are actually down-sampled images.
Obviously, a large part of the success of these images is your talent and artistry in making them work.
My only reservation with the 5D is with the viewfinder. My impression of digital cameras I have used so far is that the viewfinder is designed more for auto focus and auto exposure, as opposed to manual settings. This particularly applies to low light settings, where you seem to have had a great deal of experience and success.

Can't fault this. Exposure is about spot on, composition is pleasing enough. Looks like a little grainyness in places, so it may be worth running it through something like Neat Image (www.neatimage.com) to smooth out the sky and water a little. There is also a small dust spot bottom centre... but now I'm really clutching at straws to find anything to critique...

I think you DID succeed on this shot, with a wonderful balance between the bright base of the obelisk and the deeper values of the fading sky.
Fantastic...that's what I think!
