Thanks for writing Ismael about the book picture. It was just trying to combine words, music, images. I used Samuel Beckett's "Waiting and Godot" words (life dead short!) and Dave Bowie's "Drive in Saturday" music (happier philosophy!) for a contrast. You are right, nothing can express the soul totally- that is the challenge!

Thanks for writing Anna. I don't play the piano as often as I used to either, but the feeling for it is always there isn't it. You must be a very accomplished pianist- wonderful gift.

I'm enjoying the springboard already! I keep looking for pictures of my Dad; you first mentioned the horse being a surprise from him. Couldn't let it go- he lives round the corner and that path is midway between the two houses! And the Bowie lyrics...can't stop singing them since I did the picture!

Your welcome, just wanted to give you some starting points to springboard yourself to ever you might go :-)
Mark
P.S on this picture the lyrics of that song really play into your picture a lot.

Thanks so much Mark- definitely helped! Glad it was that pic- I kept thinking of your ideas when I saw it. Even if I don't manage to actually do it, it is great having those images in my mind! But I will certainly give it a go;I like things that take time and I learn from. I'd never have guessed alot of yours come from a golf course. Wonderful you can get it quiet and still see things there. It's having your mind like that wherever you are that's a gift. PS. Had never heard of critique of the day- so you hepled me learn that too! Thanks Mark.

Congratulations on the Critique of the Day,
This was the picture, that I thought you might go back too. I would like to think that early morning light softly streams thru swirling leaves/trees, ivy?
Or the beginning of twilight or cloudy day and the sun breaks in different aspects of that picture.
Or early morning light streaming thru with a light mist or fog?
The horse that if you called to it might look your way, and that would be one more aspect of that picture.
Might want to get a bit closer so the horse takes up a more prominent part of the picture.
You have a digital, so depending on the flash card size, try different settings and such, all depends on how much time you want to spend.
I like the swirling in this too the contrast of the dark and light gives it a nice feel of looking thru, almost feels like a curling part of a wave.
I can only say there is a golf course nearby to me and I am the only one there abut closing/opening time with a camera. Just me and the groundskeepers.
Thats where most of my reflection shots come from. Every-time I go back I see something a bit different.
Hope this helps a bit :-)
Mark

Thanks Mark- always good to hear your ideas- inspires me. You're right- the background is a cover on the bed! Which fits so well with the image seeming like bits of a dream. I see what you mean about the typewriter. Shame you couldn't get all Bowie's early work for free! He is a great writer. PS. Is this the picture you gave me ideas about different times of day etc.- I keep thining of it.

the background that feels like a blanket to me, gives a sense of dreamland. The book feels almost like something that you would see in a dream and wake up wondering it's many meanings. Somehow it reminds me of the typewriter from Naked Lunch.
Went and found the lyrics on line, cool song, tried I-tunes but wasn't there.
Think this is your most creative piece so far, for me.

Thanks Huub- I'll see if I can learn about this cancelling the sharpening- never knew you could do that. I never know how sizing will go and if the words will be legible at all! I'd love to make a book with various levels of transparency on stacked pages..... great idea for me to try and learn how to do! Yes, I am well into the musical, but how you manage to do yours so wonderfully is just far beyond me.

great idea, Mary!
I wonder whther the white artefacts in the lines of sheet music are the result of the sharpening which usefilm does when you upload the picture. It is possible to turn that option off, I had to do that for some uploads to meke them agreeable... One could make a book with some sheets transparent with this technique! Thanks for the comments - we seem to share a love for the musical and the visual!
regards, Huub
