This I call decisive photography!!!
Taking a picture of a blind boy cycling up against an obstacle! Phew, my hat of to you.
Looking forward to see other adventures of "Kamikaze Blind Boy" and some rural obstacles. Maybe ( just a idea) KBB's encounter with Granny,KBB didn't see the Truck, KBB does a 360 on the Eifel Tower,...
Great and thank you for sharing.

Hey John,

I can see what you're trying to do in this image. It is quite interesting; I mean, how often do you see someone landing their bike onto a cherished plaque dedicated to some dead guy?

Where this image fails is during it's initial phase of execution. For this image to have it's full impact you will have to take our attention away from the beautiful city's surroundings. A big zoom will be able to help take the emphasis on the beautiful garden and the beautiful buildings within the premisis. A fill flash will also help to freeze motion without sacraficing image quality.

Good luck!

I'm going to come at this from many angles:

1 The photo: It is soft. Could be zoomed in tighter. Crop in, lose the trees and flowers. Also, make it straight BW or put it in color. The green tint is distracting

2 Socialities: As members of society, your criminal lack of conscience for a monument that must mean something to someone in your town typifies your "It's all about me" attitude. Rather than deface something important and commemorative, find something else to ride on. The sidewalks and streets are there for that purpose. If you are so concerned over the lack of a skate / riding park in your town, try to DO something about it. Have your parents get involved. Write a letter to your congressman. Something...

That said, I feel I know what your responses will be.

Please don't let our feelings for your activities stop you from shooting pictures. Photography is something we DO share.

The photo is soft, lacks contrast, it has a green tint which I don't care for, and exposure is all wrong.

this is the kid that took the photo. i have read everyones "two cents" and thought i would give mine. the reason i put this photo on here was because i liked it and thought i would share it with other people to see,and thought people would rate it on the picture, but it turned in to one big argument about tax payers and what we do when there arn't any skateparks, but to be honest even if there was one around here i would still ride or "vandalize public property" you are probably thinking this "kid is some punk vandal" wich ya if i were in you position(a stuck up prick) i would too. you don't really see were im coming from at all, riding my bike has given me alot and its what i love to do so if i have to leave a few marks on a block of cement i could care less, sure unfortunate but im not going to stop doing what i love to please someone eles. instead of thinking of "us kids" as some "young messed up vandels" how about kids doing what we love to do, but have no were to do it, even tho we all have differnt opinions. there are worse things we could be doing, and when you think about it its not really that big of deal a few kids riding there bikes is it???
i tried to "take the high road"(i guess lol) i hope everyone eles does to.....

Hi, not to be rude but I would thought I would mention that this a photo that paints a photo of something that happened and I actually think it is a kind of cool photo. I don't think that it is a good thing to do, but may I remind people that this is a photo critique site, not a social commentary site -- well, I guess it could be that too and I guess maybe this photo served its purpose -- it stirred up some emotions.

Another $0.02 for what it's worth. I also am a (mountain) biker, and we've got similar problems with off-road trails and people complaining that we destroy the paths and erode the hills. However, hikers and other users do as much damage. Only recently have mountain bikers become accepted. I think the problem is that BMXing is still somewhat of a fringe sport and there just aren't enough parks for people to go to. Once interest grows more, more people will open parks, or cities will be more willing to provide them (just as there are free parks for mountain bikers). Probably some BMXers could make a lot of money opening up a good park.
Cheers, Marc

Just my 2 cents... but being from the Philadelphia area where this is quite the problem at Love Park, I've given this some thought, and what I don't understand is why it is that the riders seem to think that they have a right to public funded bike parks... Sure, tax money does pay for some neighborhood baseball and football fields, but not every sport has a public field in every city. I had an interest in a sport that didn't have public-funded arenas when I was younger, and I joined a club that I supported financially so we could have access to fields.. by paying for them. For some reason, bikers seems to think they have a right to parks developed just for them, at everyone else's expense... and if they aren't provided, they will blackmail everyone by destroying public and private works of art, memorials and public areas until what they want is provided. Makes me want to direct my tax dollars into more security, rather than public bike parks.

Im a BMXer(see user name) and i see that "public monument" as a public skatepark. I live in one of the worst, biggat, corrupt cities in the Untied States, Miami Florida. Tax payers money goes to very stupid things, like 10,000 for a big broken bowl with orange peels eveywhere(which doubles as a sweet ass 1/4 pipe) Unless the taxpayers money starts going to build me a public skatepark, then i'll use what they have payed for, for my skatepark. And while your at it, i think that driving in your jeep everyday, cuases more destruction to mother nature, than a 4 1/2 inch 4130 peg cuases to a concrete block. the block can be replaced, but the ozone layer cannot. the "little kids" bikes we ride cuase less pollution than the lightbulb youve turned on behind you.

Next time you want to make us kids look like hooligans or degenerates, please look at yourself, and look how much more damage you do to what was orignally here, made by mother nature.

If you (and others like you) would show a little respect to public property, maybe you wouldn't have such a PR problem. Ever think of that?
But when you spout venom constantly, what do you expect?

CHAD MOORE   {K:15} 2/10/2003
hi this is Chad, i can understand how guys look at this as just some "ruthless kids" or something destroying public property, but i guess you dont understand the way we i guess you would say "think". Im not going to write you a book or something about how much i love bike riding, but i will tell that there is a lack of places to ride. Thats why i "destroy" public monuments. And i thought about it and i really dont fucking care. This "monument" was paid for by tax payers, just like the cops that tried to arrest me on friday night for just sitting in a parking lot with my bike. Then if you think about it a little more, when your driving your "truck" around in my moms front yard you are poluting, damaging the ozone layer, global warming ring a bell? I'm not complaining about that am i? So until u go to city council meetings to get skateparks in citys, kids like me are going to destroy public property and your yuppie ass will have to sit and watch. thats all

I like to 4-wheel my Jeep at top speed and turn 360's in the dirt and mud. But I don't have any place to do it where I live. How about I come over to your house and do it in your Mom's front yard? Wouldn't that be cool!?? You could even take my picture!

I think this is actually in the wrong catagory. It should be in "Journalism", and titled "Criminal Vandalism of a Public Monument".

John,

Ok shot but a bit soft, I would also crop in a bit tighter.
