Incredibly suggestive - excellent work using the pencil as a weapon. May I ask how you make your special artistic backgrounds in your wonderful photos? Best wishes Annemette PS: I assume this is linked to the Mohammedcrisis?

"Thinking can be dangerous (at least to the status quo)."
...and science, DOUBLY so!
I think freedom of speech stops where it incites or encourages injury to another (see: Ann Coulter)

Stunning image Fidel . . . and one that makes a person think.
---Good question . . . Do we have the right to be hostile to other religions??? Do we have to accept ALL religions? What if a person believes that (like in days of old) the firstborn child should be passed through the fire and sacrificed to a God? Must we accept it?? Whatever a person chooses to call his or her religion . . . even if it is diametrically opposed to all that you believe . . . Such as (for example) killing innocent children . . . is it wrong to be hostile?? Please understand . . . I'm not choosing a side--just continuing your question which is very thought provoking. I object to ANY country (or belief) . . . even my own . . . when it does the WRONG thing.
--What is right and what is NOT right . . . and need we ask others to tell us these things?
--The image of the pencil as a weapon is perfect. Words represent ideas . . . and ideas are weapons. Thoughts are dangerous. Thinking can be dangerous (at least to the status quo).
--Dave said it right . . . and you have no fear if you're doing the right thing. You only need fear ideas and speech when you're wrong!
---Great - thought provoking image!
Regards, Doyle I <~~~~~

I am going to get into trouble saying this... but....
This photo so speaks to one of my major complaints today. Here in the US, freedom of speech is ONLY allowed if you don't oppose the current administration, the religious right or even somebody elses opinion. Oppose the war, you are a traitor. Fail to bow to a certain God, you are a heathen. Express an opinion in one of the UF forums that seems unimportant to somebody else, be labeled a "whiner".
I do not begrudge those that found the cartoon offensive. That is their freedom to choose what they feel is degrading. On the other hand, that freedom should be universal. If I hear you, you should hear me.
Your photo can take on many meanings to many people. Or, for the blind, can be overlooked.
Best wishes, Dave

Dear Richard, thank you very much for the feedback and honestly expressing your opinion, much respected and appreciated :) Regarding the technical, it is just a photograph manipulated in PS, no drawing if that's what you mean by different media. Looking forward to see some new works from you!

I believe the offense (in the cartoon) is determined by the intent. Did the cartoonist intend insult, or was he merely ignorant. From my point of view no words or images justify a violent response. Education of the ignorant fosters the tolerance of all religions. Photographically (I believe that's what we are here for after all), this is a powerful image my friend. I think your choice of monochrome, and your simple composition are responsible for this. Although different media was used, this is reminicent of the images generated by the Russian revolution. Congrats Fadel.

This is a very powerful image that you have created. The title and caption are equally as strong. I think you did an outstanding job on conveying a message with this one.

Hi Fadel, I'm pretty sure I understand your frustration with the current situation. To answer your question in the about. I personally do not believe so. I can tell you that it does not seem ethical to me. I can tell you that where I work, distributing images or text by e'mail or hard copy that can be construed as demeaning or hateful of any race, religion or gender is cause enough for instant dismissal. Personally, I think that people who hide behind "Freedom of Speech" to stir hatred are despicable. They either do not understand the consequences of their actions. Or, even worse, they do understand the consequences of their actions. Not a good situation either way. Andre

Fadel, don't feel down, your capture clearly delivered the message, It varies from a person to another, but the meaning is clear as much as the message as well, Wonderfully composed, Salam,

Fantastic idea reminds me of "Kalam Rusas" a program TV, where the weapon is the pencil, in turns the speech. Once it is that violent and should not touching others freedom its acceptable :) Wise thought and brilliant subject. Saeed

Salam AlZahraa, thank you and everyone very much for the useful comments, I think I failed to clearly deliver the message I wanted to say, in no way the intention was to carry double messages. I'm really sad it ended up taken this way as naturally I am outraged by the hostile act from the so called "artist". Anyway I changed some of the information of the image in the hope that it would say the message clearly. Thanks once again.
