Great coloring and perpective but a sharp focus (might be hyperfocusing??) would turn it really strong, David! This way it has much more of fantasy, and the thing is that it smells at the same time very very real!

Best wishes,

Nick

Hi Dave,
One of the things that I am a little dissapointed about the Fuji S5000 is the lack of slower shutter speeds than this. Unless I'm missing something. I couldn't figure our how to keep the shutter open.

Very nice Dave. Pity about the vibration, but a golden rule Ive learned, even with landscapes....is to use a tripod. Before I even read your comment on the vibration....I thought that there was slight camera shake...thinking that Daves pictures are sharp....as allways...then I read your story.
I think the majority always find a tripod to be a schlep....which is....lol.
I remember when I got my Fuji S602z....messing about late afternoon in the room(low light) taking pics....i started to believe that the camera was faulty and wanted to take it back because it wasnt focusing properly.i then tried a tripod shot...and then realized it was ever so slight camera shake.Thats when I started to respect the tripod rule.
Well done
have a good day

The hand-held feel given by the bridge vibration adds to the spontaneity of this composition. I am of the mind that the foreground should be in focus - as you have chosen to do.

vibration from traffic or shivering from the cold?
The motion blur is kind of cool..regards, Bill C.

It would be a great view if not for the softness.
Worth another try. Don.

Yes, Dave one thing about that camera not very stable. But still great job capturing the city lights. More artistic this way. Have a safe trip. Marilyn

I think the end result looks interesting Dave. Vibrations are a menace but the quivering in the lights has produced a good result...You did well my friend, all the best...Ray

Even with the blur from the traffic this has turned into a really interesting and successful night shot Dave. The blur has made for some great effects here. The colours are great and I like the composition. Great night shot.

Thank you for your comment on my Bridge waterfall image.

Cheers - Ann :)

sorry that's what I meant, is have a smaller openning. Didn't even realize. Yeah camera shake can do that to you, next time try to hold the tripot while taking your picture, it should reduce the shake.

Dave - Looks like a really COLD night!! Interesting how the red lights turn into white.

I love night shots with a slow shutter speed. It is very hard to pull off. I am not very knowledgeable about camera settings but what Kevin said sounds reasonable. I do like this. Del.

Hi Dave,

That was going to be my first question. The bridge vibration must have been horrible. Add a wind and you end up with a soft focus.

Great composition, Dave.

Actually the blurriness of the shot gives it a nice effect, good perspective and beautiful light. Alison

Dave Stacey Dave Stacey   {K:150877} 1/24/2006
Thanks for your input, Kevin! Actually for max. DOF the aperture should be small (high number), which in this case it was, at f9. There may be a focus issue, but the main thing was vibration on the bridge from heavy traffic and a strong wind moving the tripod.
Dave.

Interesting shot with great potential. I think you need to open your aperture to have more DOF to have the buildings in focus. Since they are your main subject, they need to be in focus. Keep up the good work.

Very nice low light image! The star effect around some of the lights adds a touch of magic. The light trails add a sense of movement. Good work!
