Hi Ann, I like this lit tree against the dramatic sky, but also these very few remaining leaves and the black birds on top, all balancing this photo very well. Perfect! Thanks for all your latest comments. Regards, Mireille

Ann, it's a great abstract composition with very dramatic feel due to very dark background. I like the glowing branches and twigs - you got great ilumination here to contrast nicely with the dark blue skies. Cheers, n.j

Wow, Ann! Those colors are really vivid - especially against the dark sky. I also think the central crop works well here do to some nice symmetry in the tree.

ANYTHING that catches a ray of sun lately is photoworthy, Ann! We actually had a pretty decent day here today. Susie and I had to have a "photo fix" so yesterday we took our cameras and headed out in the pouring rain. Didn't get out of the car much, but when we did we got WET! Oh well, better days ahead! No, Ann. the digital Rebel is pretty faithful. if you set it at 0 EV, it will give you a pretty darned accurate average exposure. The problem with digital is that once you get to a luminance value of 255, anything above that 'clips' and is completely lacking detail, no matter how much you adjust levels or curves. You can play conservative and set to -1/3 EV which can help. Just don't forget to adjust levels if it's a keeper to get your brightest values restored.
Here is a photo I intentionally under-exposed by two stops because I knew it would yield this effect: http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1031134

Thanks for the tip Paul. I'll remember that if I see this again. I jsut left the camera on auto to grab a few quick snaps and this is what I got. I wanted to get out of there before the deluge. I though digital cameras always underexposed anyway do they?
Thanks agian
Cheers - Ann :)

Thank goodness it's Larry's hair....thought it was mine phew!!
That is one dark forbidding sky sweetie but the burst of sunlight has exposed the tree and made me think of Jason and the Golden Fleece (Though why he couldn't settle for a blue one from the supermarket....b----y snob!) Oh my lovely girl, you always get into the firing line don't you? Risking frostbite one minute, being swept away in floodwater the next, I bet you have ladders and scaped knees as well:):):) Never mind, it is all greatly appreciated by your UF friends. Best wishes to you and great big hugs, 'see' you soon...Ray

Very dramatically lit, Ann. Tip: In these situations, its recommended to UNDER expose by 1 and even 2 stops, as the averaging meter may (and in this case, did) not correctly expose the shot. Had this been underexposed, the tree woudl have retained a lot more detail.

Just love the sky when it's like this. Ann, what a capture! So dramatic... must have been quite a deluge. The skies here never get that dark and scary. Just grey and bleak. Really makes me miss the whoppers we get back home...
Nicely done and definitely worthy. Cheers Rina

Knock, knock, looks whose next door on the recent posts, how did you take a shot of my hair in the morning... that will be one model release young lady, liked your pom pom trees, my view across my street is a suburban house like 4 million homes in the US, and you get pom pom trees. Lorax was Dr. Suess's last or near last books, a character who bemoaned the wanton cutting down of trees, larger version of your pom poms but more the color of my South Beach Fall. I am rambling on, must stop. Heidi-Ho.
