dear kelly, i am from those cold parts and happy i only need to encounter an ice rink if and when i want to. the skates are clearly visible here and the postures and the movements are of clear beginners. well, the enthusiasm about this photo escapes me. it is well done but nothing out of the ordinary, i think. saludos cordiales charlie.f.kohn@sixpence-pictures.com // photography // design // madrid

YAY Dave. Congratulations for making the front page today. Is that a naturla path they are skating on or do they smooth it out and prep it for skating inthe winter. A beautiful scene. I've never seen people skate anywhere other than an indoor skating rink. I think it would be so nice to see something like this in person. Skating in a natural setting seems like such a romantic thing to do. :)
COngrats again Dave.
Cheers - Ann :)

Hi Kelly, thanks for your award winning comment! I forgot to answer your question, though! They don't actually ice a sidewalk, but make an ice path a couple of kilometres long that connects different parts of the Forks area, including a full size hockey rink, warm up/changing area, and it also goes across a bridge, so there is quite a bit of skating involved for the whole thing. There is also an area cleared on the river, including another ice trail, but of course it's very weather dependent to be safe, whereas this trail is on dry land so as long as the temp. is below freezing it's OK to skate on. Dave.

I dont think I will get on skates any more but it looks so peaceful. At first glance I was not sure I liked the lights shining but the more I looked the more I decided I liked them. I find that often things I question at first glance I like when I really take in the entire photo. I envy them in such a beautiful sitting. Del.

Wow, what a lot of action going on here, with the boy in front with his hockey stick and the lovely couple in the foreground. Nice follow through with the path. Smartly done comming from the side and ending in the middle. Never have thougt of doing that. Work quite well.
Is that a side walk that is cover with ice and they are skating on? I'm not from those cold parts and was quite amazed at this photo. Very interesting!!! Kelly

Hi Terry,it is caused by the aperture (blades that do the opening)and so you get a starlike pic on the light. The wider the aperture opening, the more blade sides there is and thus more starlike effect.....regards Hilton
